Gentle Beginnings FAQs:

What will I learn in the class?

The Gentle Beginnings Sleep Class for Newborns includes over two hours of content and is divided into three parts. Part 1 outlines some newborn sleep basics that are important for new parents to keep in mind and covers such topics as safety, sleep environment, swaddles, pacifiers, dressing and positioning, and pre-sleep routines. Part 2 reviews how your baby's biology will change over time and covers how to adjust your baby's sleep timing and feedings accordingly. This part of the class also includes sample schedules for each month.  Part 3 will provide you with age-appropriate and step-by-step actions you can take to solve problems when your baby is waking too frequently or having trouble being put down for sleep.

Is this class "Sleep Training"?

Definitely not in the way most people think of sleep training. The class includes baby- and parent-led approaches that involve staying next to your baby as you work to teach your baby new skills. This class does not include any approaches that involve leaving a baby alone in a room. It is normal for babies under six months to need feedings and support at night.

Can I use the strategies I learn during the class for naps too?

Yes, the approaches described in this class can be used for naps. Newborn naps are often erratic. The approaches we describe will help your baby learn to sleep independently so that your baby can grow into stable naps with time (usually after age six months).

What ages are appropriate for this class?

This class is appropriate for healthy babies between 0-6 months. We have plans to produce more classes in the future, but at this time if you need help with a toddler, please schedule a sleep consult for individualized help.

Will I receive a written plan?

We have created a multi-page guided note-taking workbook for you to create your plan based on what you learn in the class.

What if I need more help?

We’re happy to help you tweak your plan or deal with new issues. As a class attendee you can purchase a 30-minute follow-up with us if you need more help. We also offer 50-minute and 75-minute call options depending on how much time you think you need.

Do you have a money-back guarantee?

No. Our class provides a large amount of information to help you implement changes that suit your baby and family situation. However, the consistent implementation and follow through of the plan is up to you!  If you decide not to follow the plan, or if your child isn’t responding to the plan as expected, then we recommend that you schedule a follow-up to reformulate the plan or troubleshoot the original plan. If you aren’t seeing success, then it is also helpful to regroup with your pediatrician to make sure there aren’t any medical issues inhibiting your success.
